The British Red Cross is testing a new approach to develop critical thinking skills of young people based on the Movement’s Fundamental Principles. Anchoring such an educational approach in the universally recognized Fundamental Principles can offer an effective way to promote values of tolerance, respect for diversity and non-violence, while avoiding the pitfalls of polarization and stigmatization.

As this programme is still in development we are unable to share the materials yet, however please find attached a one page summary of the educational approach, which may be of interest.

In the wake of recent terrorist attacks in the UK and around the world, the British Red Cross has developed materials to help teachers to support children and young people who may be shocked and distressed by the news. Our free online teaching resources help children and young people explore their emotions and learn how to cope with news of traumatic events, think about the practical and emotional support people need in a crisis, and consider the humane ways that people respond during and after an emergency.  Full details can be found on our website: http://www.redcross.org.uk/What-we-do/Teaching-resources/Talking-about-terrorist-attacks .
