Austria continues its efforts in promoting dissemination and training in international humanitarian law. To this end, the Austrian Ministry of Defence has organized the Vienna Course on International Law eight times until 2016 and will organize the 9th Vienna Course on International Law for Military Legal Advisers in 2017/18.

Moreover, Austria actively engages in consultations on how to render international humanitarian law more effective. Austria actively participated in and supported the consultations and meetings organised by Switzerland and the ICRC on the question of an IHL compliance mechanism.
