In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement in 2015 and recognising their continued value, the Australian Government and Australian Red Cross hereby pledge for the years 2016-2019:

 

  • To promote understanding, non-violence and respect for cultural, linguistic and religious diversity in the Australian community, including through providing educational activities which foster humanitarian values and, where possible, building partnerships to promote dialogue and inclusion.
  • To enhance social cohesion by supporting practical actions to prevent or address discrimination and racism towards migrants and other people and groups of cultural, linguistic and religious diversity in Australia.

 


Action plan

  • Work together to promote a socially cohesive Australia including through celebrating the country’s cultural, linguistic and religious diversity.
  • Work collaboratively to prevent and combat racism within Australian communities, including through the National Anti-Racism Partnership and Strategy.
  • Engage in dialogue about issues related to discrimination and racism towards migrants and culturally and linguistically diverse groups in Australia and the actions taken by the Australian Government to prevent or address such conduct.
