In 2017, the DRC has initiated a study on the protection of the security and safety of volunteers with a particular focus on urban volunteers in Africa. The study will also identify best practises for managing the safety and well being of volunteers. The study contributes to the IFRC volunteering plan of action and the volunteer alliance. It is linked to resolution 4 and 5.

The DRC is part of a working group tasked with updating the guidance on NS statutes document, which also has a focus on respect for the fundamental principles.

The safer access framework is part of the OD support provided to partner NS.
