Through a multi-agency process headed by the Danish Emergency Management Agency (DEMA) a new strategy for national preparedness and risk reduction has been developed and politically endorsed. A national forum for preparedness and risk reduction has been established. DRC is a member of the forum and has throughout the process participated by in the steering group and the specific working groups.

5. What steps has your National Society taken to support your public authorities in assessing their existing legal frameworks related to first aid?

The DRC is a permanent member of two multi-agency councils: The Danish Resusciliation Council, which is a member of the European Resuscialiation Council, and The Danish First Aid Council. Through this representation the Danish Red Cross currently engages in assessment of the existing legal frameworks for first aid in the Danish national context and support authorities to strengthen the first aid related frameworks in close cooperation with relevant actors.

6. What steps has your National Society taken to support your public authorities in strengthening their existing legal frameworks related to first aid?

The DRC has been supporting the adjustment of existing legal frameworks to ensure, that 8 hours first aid training is a mandatory part of obtaining a driver's license in Denmark. This has been in force since 2006.
The DRC has as well been supporting the Ministry of Education's efforts on ensuring a mandatory 12 hours training being included in all public vocational training frameworks. Likewise there is focus on the first aid training curriculum in the elementary school.
Furthermore, the DRC is very actively engaged in advocacy and especially in public promotion on the need for learning first aid and improving the ability among the general population to save lives – hence contributing to increasing the basic community resilience.
