Volunteers and Training

The ItRC ensures that all volunteers have an adequate insurance (done through INA Assitalia) covering death, injury, sickness and trauma.
The sharing of best practices and existing tools (training modula, role play scenarios, etc) from other National Societies on safety and security could be of support to the work already in progress.
The ItRC is enhancing safety and security of volunteers through:
- specific training about security, health and safety measures for volunteers involved in international operations and projects (eg. EVRECA! and BE DRIN projects);
- disseminating specific policies on health, safety and security internationally, both to National Societies and Government deploying volunteers for civil protection and humanitarian aid purposes (such as during the implementation of BE DRIN project);
- development of specific guidelines, also about security, for volunteers and volunteers organisations engaged in emergency response in case of multiple multi-casualty Incidents, both caused by natural or man-made disasters and deliberate attacks against civilians (as defined by the MERCI project)
- together with the Palestinian RC, the ItRC started in 2005 the implementation of the PSS program. Both National Societies, together with other PNS operating in the area, implemented the same project with the NS of Iraq, Lebanon and Jordan.
The ItRC volunteers have both a specific insurance coverage and training on health and safety issues. Moreover, for all the personnel operating abroad the ItRC National Emergency Operation Center (SON - Sala Operativa Nazionale) operates as permanent safety and security focal point.
