The ItRC has been working mainly with regard to sexual and gender violence in emergencies and disasters.
In particular, it has been working in the area of prevention, awareness, information, training and capacity building, envisaging in all disaster and emergency management plans and in any other social activity the formation of its volunteers and employees in compliance with national and international regulations to prevent and respond to sexual and gender violence.
In addition, and for the purpose of applying the zero-tolerance criteria for sexual exploitation and abuse of beneficiaries, on 21 December 2016, the NS approved the "Ethical Code, Disciplinary Measures and Disciplinary Colleges’, with the aim of establishing a system to ensure procedures and behaviors to prevent unlawful or illicit activities, and to improve the efficiency, effectiveness, and transparency of the administrative action, and the quality of the regulation, aiming at addressing the needs of the communities involved, informing them of all behaviors and standards that can be expected from all volunteers, staff and anyone else working on behalf of the Italian Red Cross.
In order to develop guidelines, minimum standards, and support data collection and the development of specific training courses, on 31 March 2017 several "national technical tables" (working groups) were set up, including a table devoted to victims of violence.
Furthermore, on April 2017, the ItRC organized together with the IFRC - Regional Office for Europe a training entitled ’Basic Training on Protecting Gender and Diversity’. The training was orientated towards operators of the "Italy: Population Movement Emergency Appeal" and volunteers from all regions of Italy operating in emergencies with the aim to develop skills to prevent and respond to violence and to ensure and increase knowledge about the issue of protection.
Lastly, staffing skills are being strengthened through their participation in the "Sexual and Gender Based violence (SGBV)" training programme proposed by the IFRC's Psychosocial Center.
No significant challenge has been faced.
At the moment, the current support received from other members of the Movement in this area is satisfactory.
