The Belgian authorities and Belgian Red Cross are deeply concerned about the catastrophic humanitarian consequences of any use of nuclear weapons. They recognize the need to keep raising awareness on this issue among the relevant publics and they will take appropriate actions for that purpose. They believe that these actions can help foster a global culture of peace and security. They are convinced that every effort should be made to avoid the use of nuclear weapons. They reaffirm the need to remind all relevant actors of their obligation to comply at all times with applicable international law, including international humanitarian law. Moreover, the Belgian authorities and the Belgian Red Cross pledge to continue their dialogue on the humanitarian consequences of nuclear weapons during regular meetings in order to further the shared objective of a world without nuclear weapons.
