Recalling the Statutes of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement which recognise the role played by National Societies in conjunction with their governments to ensure respect for international humanitarian law and to protect the red cross and red crescent emblems, and building on the already strong and positive work being done in this regard, the Australian Government and Australian Red Cross hereby pledge for the years 2016-2019:

  • To continue our exchange and ongoing dialogue about the challenges and emerging issues related to international humanitarian law as well as its implementation and associated policy and practice, including (but not limited to) thematic outcomes of the International Conferences of the Red Cross and Red Crescent as well as other IHL priorities in the Australian domestic context.
  • To continue to utilise the Australian Red Cross National International Humanitarian Law Committee as an important forum for this exchange and dialogue.
